Lighting Load and Circuit Estimate

Estimate single-phase-equivalent lighting load, apparent load, current, and an arithmetic circuit count from user-entered luminaire input data.

Inputs

Lighting load

Range: 1–100,000

Count each luminaire or fitting connected to the lighting circuit schedule.

Range: 0–10,000 W

Use the luminaire's electrical input wattage, including driver or control-gear losses where they are not already included in the datasheet value. Do not use LED chip wattage.

Range: 1–1,000 V

Use the phase-to-neutral voltage for this single-phase-equivalent estimate. Australian nominal examples are 230 V or 240 V; this field does not select a three-phase formula.

Range: 0.01–1

Use the operating power factor of the lighting load. A lower value increases the apparent current for the same real wattage.

Range: 0.01–1,000 A

Enter the current limit you want to use for arithmetic circuit splitting. This is not a breaker rating, cable capacity, diversity factor, or Australian compliance limit.

Before relying on the result

  • Estimate lighting load from luminaire quantity and driver input wattage
  • Estimate circuit count from a user-provided per-circuit current limit
  • Use the estimate to prepare a preliminary lighting circuit schedule, then verify the applicable design requirements and product data.
