Motor Full-Load Current Estimate

Estimate motor electrical input power, apparent input power and full-load line current from rated shaft output, voltage, efficiency, power factor and phase configuration.

Inputs

Motor rating and electrical data

Choose single phase or three phase; three-phase voltage is line-to-line.

Range: 0.01–100,000 kW

Use the motor's mechanical rated output. Do not enter electrical input power in this field.

Range: 1–100,000 V

For three-phase mode use line-to-line voltage; for single-phase mode use the supply voltage. Australian examples are 230/240 V single phase and 400/415 V three phase.

Range: 0.01–1 fraction

Use efficiency at the operating load from the motor data. It converts shaft output to electrical real input power.

Range: 0.01–1 fraction

Use the operating power factor for the motor and load. It affects current and apparent input power.

Result

Estimated electrical input apparent power (VA)
9,690
Estimated motor full-load line current (A)
13.99
Estimated electrical real input (kW)
8.33

Before relying on the result

  • Estimating running current from motor output power
  • Comparing an estimate with a motor nameplate current
  • Use the motor nameplate and manufacturer data for final circuit design; compare this estimate with the nameplate current.
